Swan’s Island Historical Society
The Swan’s Island Historical Society is a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving and sharing island memories through the fascinating stories, images, and objects that islanders have shared with us. We hope you enjoy exploring our collections, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or information to add!
Take a look at some highlights from our collection:
We created online exhibits about various aspects of island history on the Maine Memory Network site. We will continue to add more content over time. Read about island quarrying, recreation, buildings, and more!
Take a look at all of the photographs in our collection by clicking on the catalog and stories in the column to the right. You can enter names, places, or subjects to find specific images—or just have fun browsing!
The Swan’s Island Memory Project has produced a large number of oral histories from members of the island community. Excerpts from many of those interviews are available for listening on this website.
The Swan’s Island 6th-8th grade class created short videos as a servicelearning project in collaboration with the historical society. The films feature island life, past and present.
