Next!

If August was finished up in my last post and now it’s October what happened to September?  Ah, that just happens to be rest and catch up from summer month here at the library.  I’m not sure “rest” is the right word for those of us involved in lobstering-I still have a few weeks left to go.  Shedders are still out there and the price is hovering either side of $4 to the boats! Amazing!  Shedder season continues through the holidays and some of our heartier lobstermen and women fish for lobster all winter.  Rest comes for a few short weeks after the holidays before trap repair and buoy painting begins in earnest.

I hope many of you had a chance to view the Hancock County exhibit on loan from the Penobscot Marine Museum.  If you missed it you might still enjoy browsing through PMM’s historical catalog or Swan’s Island’s. JellisonDick002And you know what?  It’s been a while since we promoted all of the hard work that went into our online museum exhibits so go ahead and take a peek at that too.

So what’s going on during October?  Children and young peoples’ programs will be starting next week.  (Check our calendar and library page.) We have a tree in the library for all of you – all ages – can help us fill it with fall colored leaves.  Simply write the title of a book you read on a leaf we provide and attach it to the tree.  Come in and check it out.

I will be getting back to regular postings and updates to our website and social media pages (Facebook and Twitter).  The SIES Board of Trustees and I will be holding our fall planning meeting (we have to be careful about using the works strategic planning or retreat because Dexter won’t show up).  Led my our new board president Carol Petraitis, we will be celebrating our achievements, planning for 2015, and having a wonderful meal together.

Oh, I will also be researching and learning how best to use book trailers.  I put a couple on our Facebook page today but I will post them again here. The Raven Boys The first is about Maggie Steifvater’s Raven series.  I have book one in the series at the library and will order the next one for our shelves.  The second is for aseries written by various authors-Infinity Ring.  Should I buy these? What do you think? Infinity Ring
