The Maine Archives and Museums newsletter is out. Click on the link to read it. There is a great article about the Maine Photo Project and other historical projects and programs taking place around the state. SIES is taking part in the Maine Photo Project and we will have an exhibit about island history 100 years ago when each village was pretty much self-sufficient and thriving. I will have more detailed information about this in the SIES spring newsletter.
The historical society has been looking through photographs and sorting them according to village and theme. Here are a few photos of a display on voting day. Voters had a great time looking at the photographs.
We might need to put the call out for photographs and will be posting details about what we are looking for shortly. We will also be holding events and programs that relate to this project and time period. #mephotoproject
In the meantime, it’s snowing again today. I’m about to close the library for the day and ski (yes I skied to work today) back home. Scroll to the bottom to see a couple of ‘snow’ pictures. One shows the snowdrift outside the children’s area window and the other shows the piles of snow created from cleaning the parking lot, driveway and walkway. Thank you to our snow plower and shovelers Timmy, TJ, and Joanna. Shoveling includes making sure the vents around the generator are kept clear and both doors and walkways are usable in case of an emergency.
