Rain, rain go away

We did have a few warm sunny days but this week will be marked by drizzle, rain, and fog.  UUHHGGGG!!!!

Even so there is always plenty to do on Swan’s Island.  Last Thursday the new Swan’s Island School art exhibit opened.  A crowd of close to 100 family, friends, and neighbors of the students attended the opening.  Art teacher Chandra Raymond provided a wide selection of student work that included pastels, watercolor, metal work and 3D objects made from paper mache.

Kim Colbeth’s grades 3-5 class had their Plymouth Village dioramas and Fantasy Garden seed packets on display.  The Fantasy Gardens were a creative writing exercise.  Students had to design a plant that would provide their favorite food, design the seed packet, growing and harvesting instructions, as well as the seeds.

Lego Club examples were also on display.  Sam Dy had grades K-2 working with Lego design and grades 3-8 learned Lego robotics programming.

Miranda Batiste worked with Chandra to collect the artwork.  They also worked on an exhibit idea which each student created a buoy that would be used by a family member.  This buoy display will be an expansion of the buoy exhibit the historical society created last year.  Miranda photographed students while they worked and provided each family with a black and white photograph of their child. She also created a catalog of student work to be used as a guide for the exhibit.  Jill Trask helped Miranda hang the exhibit and get ready for the opening.

The exhibit will be up for a while longer so if you haven’t had a chance to see it, please stop in.  It’s not to be missed.

Last night SIES hosted a presentation by John Luft of Revision Energy.

John Luft of Revision Energy explains solar system options.

John provided a simple explanation of solar energy options and how they work.
