Book Talks & Signings

We will be treated to talks by three year-round island residents with recently published books. Authors will sign books, which will be available for purchase.

Gary Rainford will read from his new collection of poems, Adrift. Reviewer Sharon Doubiago describes it as, “a fine poet’s words of a terrible disease, the pathos of a son caring for his dying mother, consolable as words can be, humor and horror, the reason for words.” Date TBA

Artist Gary Hoyle will discuss Mystery Tusk: The Search for Elephants in the Maine Woods. His personal account of the excavation of a mammoth in Scarborough, Maine, the book describes the largest excavation of an ancient animal in Maine’s history, involving approximately a hundred amateur and professional researchers.  Gary also shares his research of a mysterious claim that an elephant had been buried at the mammoth site. Shot and killed in Alfred, Maine in 1816, the event inspired P. T. Barnum to become a showman. Date TBA
