On Tuesday, March 19, 2024 (the first day of spring), at 6 p.m. Eastern, we will discuss the final Maine-authored memoir in our winter-spring series: Elizabeth W. Garber’s Implosion: A Memoir of an Architect’s Daughter (2018). Garber, who lives in Belfast, Maine, chronicles her relationship with her architect father, who in 1966 moves his family into a spectacular glass house forged from his modernist aesthetic. In the end, the house becomes a mirror of pretense and abuse that compels Garber to rethink modernism’s utopian promise. Our conversation will be facilitated by retired Professor of English Pamela Macfie. Please join us via Zoom:
