It all started last week with a visit by Newbury winning author Richard Peck. Island Readers and Writers brought Mr. Peck to the MDI area for a community read based on his book A Long Way From Chicago. Students in grades 3-8 as well as many community members all received a copy of this book to read. Students in grades K-2 had several chapters of Mr. Peck’s book Secrets at Sea read to them. Students performed an excerpt of the play Effigy in the Outhouse that Mr. Peck had written for Acting Out! but had never seen it performed before. This week, 4th of July week, we have already hosted an interactive presentation on how to identity what is in your jewelry box that might be worth something. Thank you Linda and Heather Dawson for your insight and guidance.
Saturday we will get a visit from Kate Webber. Kate will be at the library to sign and talk about her book Swan’s Island Chronicles so stop by to say hi and buy a copy if you haven’t already. Kate is also hosting a Contra Dance Saturday night at the hall. She’s bringing the band Velocipede to provide the music. Kate suggests that a $5 donation/person would be nice for the band’s expenses.
Next Tuesday evening stop by the library to hear Gary Rainford and Don Junkins read selections from their poetry collections. Congratulations to Gary for his poetry being accepted for publication.
Children’s and young people’s programs are Monday afternoon for ages 9-14 at 4 pm, Thursday morning at 10 am for ages 6-8, and Friday morning for babies-age 5. Welcome Chelsea Tripler as our children’s program director.
Much more fun coming up. Stay tuned.
