  • Holidays 2014 festivities

I don’t know about you but this past week has been all about sleeping late, eating lots of yummy leftovers and trying to do a bit of work.  I keep wanting to just take a nap.  I am showing a few photos from events at the library during December with more to be loaded into…

  • We Are Swan’s Island exhibit

We are Swan’s Island opens to great reviews; great food, great conversation and lots of smiling faces.  The photographs shown here speak louder than any words I could write, so take time to browse. This exhibit will be hanging for a month or more so if you didn’t have the chance to stop in during…

  • Just what is a library anyway?

Have you ever thought about this?   Is it a collection of world history and literature?  We have lost these collections many times. The Library of Alexandria is at the bottom of the Mediteranean Sea. Various political regimes or various zealots collected or destroyed written material at their whim.  There is an interesting book that…

This post will serve as public notice for an update and changes SIES is making to its internet policy as advised by the Maine State Library E-rate service office.  This meeting of the Board of Trustees will take place at our regularly scheduled monthly meeting November 10, 2014, 6:00 pm at the Swan’s Island Library.  For…

  • Next!

    Next!

If August was finished up in my last post and now it’s October what happened to September?  Ah, that just happens to be rest and catch up from summer month here at the library.  I’m not sure “rest” is the right word for those of us involved in lobstering-I still have a few weeks left…

  • Finishing up August at the library

I just uploaded photographs from August library programs and got them all divided into titled folders in the 2014 photo folder.  Amazing….what a wide variety of activities and author visits we had during August. Animation camp was great.  Deb Vendetti helped our children transform their own story and artwork into a wonderful animated short.  Click…

  • Almost Labor Day

Well, I think it’s been a while since I posted anything….what a fun and event filled summer we’ve had.  Over the next week or so I should have photos and updates caught up and posted for you to see. Stay tuned….

  • An egg blew up in the library….

Oh my goodness what fun we had last night. Egg shells went flying, hydrogen was exploding, peroxide became a flowing fountain of volcanic foam, and a purple liquid moved through the colors of the rainbow before staying orange.

  • June

It’s June already.  I look forward to seeing seasonal visitors and friends and getting out in a lobster boat again.  (I must say that I have become a fair weather stern man.) Last Sunday afternoon I got to spend time in the sun at Fine Sand Beach with family and friends. Definitely a hint of…
